Arsenal are reportedly ready to enter the race to sign Napoli forward Piotr Zielinski, who is also a long-term Liverpool target.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Arsenal are considering a move to sign Piotr Zielinski from Napoli in the summer transfer window. The Polish international is also a long-term target for Liverpool, who now face competition from their Premier League rivals.
Piotr Zielinski joined Napoli from Udinese in the summer of 2016 with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the finest prospects in Europe, having also been targeted by Liverpool. Although he made slow progress at San Paolo in his first two campaigns, the player seems to have come into his own this term.
Now a mainstay in attack for the Partenopei, the 24-year-old has made 34 appearances across all competitions in the current campaign. While a return of five goals does not make for an impressive reading, he continues to remain a highly regarded prospect, with Arsenal and Liverpool keen on signing him.
Liverpool, in fact, hold a long-standing interest in the Pole, having attempted to sign him before his move to Napoli. And, Zielinski continues to remain on the radar of the Reds, who are reported to be in the market for attacking reinforcements – Bruno Fernandes is one of their targets.
With the player capable of playing in a variety of positions, he could add to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options, which seem to be few and far between, especially beyond the regulars. Liverpool though, are no longer the only suitor in Zielinski’s pursuit, with Arsenal also interested in him.
The interest from the Gunners could be rather straightforward. Aaron Ramsey will bring his stint with Arsenal to an end in the summer, having agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer. The Welshman’s departure opens up a slot in attack, one that can be filled up by Zielinski, whose ability to link up with the frontmen could make him a top class replacement for Ramsey.
The report suggests that both Arsenal and Liverpool are only keeping tabs on the player as of now, and it will be interesting to see if either club goes on to amp up their interest in him. The Mirror though, also add that Zielinski is likely to commit his long-term future to Napoli, who are eager to sign him to a new deal.
That certainly puts a dampener on the hopes of Arsenal and Liverpool, and it remains to be seen if they stand any chance of signing Piotr Zielinski in the summer, should they launch the offensive for him.
