Miralem Pjanic has revealed that he snubbed the chance to join Manchester United in favour of staying at Juventus, amid interest from Chelsea, PSG and Barcelona
In an interview with Italian outlet Il Gironale, Miralem Pjanic has disclosed that there was interest in him from Manchester United in last summer’s transfer window. But, the Bosnian midfielder, who has also been tailed by Chelsea, PSG and Barcelona, was committed to Juventus, where he is happy and content.
Pjanic joined Juventus from AS Roma in a shock move in the summer of 2016, following five productive campaigns with the Giallorossi. The move to Turin though, has panned out well, with the player winning five trophies in two seasons thus far, all while being a mainstay in midfield for the Serie A heavyweights.
The 28-year-old has already amassed 120 appearances under his belt at Juventus, with a decent tally of 18 goals and 32 assists in these outings. But, his status as one of the best midfielders, not just in Serie A, but across Europe has had some of the biggest clubs interested in signing him, with The Sun claiming that Manchester United were one of them.
In fact, Pjanic recently confirmed the links in an interview with Il Gironale, suggesting that he snubbed the chance to play for Manchester United in order to stay put with the Serie A champions.
“There was some interest, it’s true, but I had no reason to change club. I don’t know if Juventus will be my last big club, because transfer don’t just depend on the player. But also on the club and who might or might not need you in that role.”
Manchester United are reported to be in the market for a midfielder, with Ruben Neves being one of their targets. But, a player like Pjanic, if signed, could have been just the kind of successor that the Red Devils need to phase out Nemanja Matic, who has shown signs of age catching up to him this season.
But, as the Bosnian midfielder confirmed with his comments, he is unlikely to part ways with Juventus anytime soon, having hinted that he would like the Serie A champions to be his last big club.
Meanwhile, as per The Sun, the likes of PSG, Barcelona and Chelsea are also keen on signing the 28-year-old, although the trio are likely to face disappointment in his pursuit as well, judging by his comments. As far as Manchester United are concerned, they will have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements, with Pjanic unlikely to join them or any other club.
