Transfer News: Kevin Grosskreutz advises Mario Gotze to join Liverpool in January

Kevin Grosskreutz has advised former Borussia Dortmund teammate Mario Gotze to seek greener pastures and possibly join Liverpool in January

In an interview with Sky in Germany, Kevin Grosskreutz has spoken out about the current predicament that Mario Gotze finds himself in. The 30-year-old has urged his former teammate to leave Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window before adding that Liverpool will be a good fit for him.

Scoring the winner at a World Cup final is usually a sign of better things to come. But, in the case of Mario Gotze, his career has gone completely pear shaped since netting the goal that won Germany the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In the two years that followed, the player fell completely out of favour at Bayern Munich before returning to Borussia Dortmund.

But, his decline has continued at Westfalenstadion as well, with a metabolic disorder playing a part in it as well. Despite completely recovering from the problem though, things haven’t improved much, with Gotze yet to make a Bundesliga appearance this season. And, his former teammate and friend Kevin Grosskreutz believes Liverpool is the place for him.

The 30-year-old has opined that Gotze should bring an end to his second stint at Dortmund as early as the January transfer window while also giving his suggestion of a possible destination. Grosskreutz is of the opinion that Liverpool is just the club for the German midfielder to rebuild his stuttering career.

“I’m very sorry for Mario Gotze at the moment, because stuff is written about him – and only him – every day. In Brugge, for example, the whole team didn’t play well. Maybe it would be good for him to go abroad in the winter to find a bit more peace and bring his career back on track. Klopp knows him quite well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”

Liverpool could indeed be an interesting place to resurrect his career for Gotze, with Jurgen Klopp knowing him better than any other manager. The Reds will not find it difficult to swoop him away from Dortmund either, considering his current predicament, and the fact that the player would be open to a move to Anfield.

The only sticking point is Liverpool actually making a move for Gotze. While the Premier League leaders were interested in signing him this past summer, there has been no indication as to whether they retain their interest in the 26-year-old.

But, the fact that they failed to sign an attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window could force them back into the market in the January transfer window looking for one. The Nabil Fekir chapter seems to be a closed one and who knows, Gotze could be the player Liverpool turn their attention towards.

For now, Gotze’s frustrations are increasing at Borussia Dortmund, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool offer him a way out in the January transfer window.
