Federico Chiesa has reportedly emerged as a January target for Chelsea, with the Blues looking to add the Fiorentina winger to their squad.
According to Express, Federico Chiesa is a player that is attracting interest from Chelsea. Maurizio Sarri has been looking to shore up the wing area and the club has been scouring different options for the same. The Fiorentina star has emerged as a potential January target for the Blues.
Chiesa has built his name as one of the brightest up-and-coming prospects in Italy. The winger has come through the ranks at Fiorentina, having joined the academy as a ten-year-old. The youngster was handed his breakthrough in the 2016-17 season. And the industrious star took the opportunity with both hands, becoming a regular within the first-team setup for La Viola.
The 20-year-old has been working towards increasing his output with each passing match, which has reflected in the last couple of seasons. His start to the 2018-19 campaign has been prolific as well, with a goal and an assist to show in the 3 Serie A appearances thus far. He is starting to catch the attention of several clubs including Chelsea.
Sarri has Pedro, Willian and Eden Hazard as his options for the wing. Charly Musonda has been sent on a season-long loan again, which has restricted the options at Chelsea’s disposal. While Hazard and Pedro have started the season in an ominous form, Willian has struggled to cope with Sarri’s tactics.
Maurizio Sarri would also love to add compatriots to the mix in order to help push through his tactics in a smoother manner, as was the case with Antonio Conte. But, there are a few potential barriers.
Napoli are one of the parties interested in Chiesa. But, it is not Napoli that will emerge as the most potent contender for Chelsea, with Sarri aware that Napoli do not have the financial pull to challenge the Premier League teams. The team in question is Juventus.
The Bianconeri had a £50 million bid rejected for the 20-year-old in the summer and are likely to return with a better bid come January.
Another hindrance could be the fact that Chelsea might instruct Sarri to sell before buying. Whatever happens, Fiorentina have a fight on their hands if they are to retain the services of Chiesa.
