Liverpool made it five wins out five to continue their perfect start to the season, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
In what was a performance in stark contrast to last season’s 4-1 thrashing in this exact same fixture, Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated for much of the game. And, they grabbed a well deserved lead when Georginio Wijnaldum headed in the opener six minutes before half-time.
The Liverpool juggernaut didn’t stop in the second half either, with Roberto Firmino doubling the Reds’ advantage in the 54th minute. But, while they had a number of chances to build on their lead, their profligacy paved the way for a frantic few moments towards the end of the game as Erik Lamela scored from a powerful volley deep into injury time.
Nevertheless, Liverpool held on for a well deserved win as they consolidated their place atop the table. And, fans were were revelling in joy following another solid performance by Jurgen Klopp & co. as the Merseyside club established their credentials to win their first Premier League title.

Full time: 15 points from 15 for Liverpool. Lots of room for improvement for Liverpool, not clinical enough going forward but overall heading in the right direction.

14 attempts on goal with 10 on target. A 0-2 scoreline is generous for Tottenham.

The moment Tottenham changed tactics. Klopp reacted and changed as well. Now that’s a proper manger. Pure class. Overrun the midfield. Counter attack. #lfc #klopp #Liverpool #LFCFamily #LFCTOT

Huge result to hold on and dig out the 3 points at the end there. Should never have been that close; Liverpool miles the better side on the whole, despite wastefulness in the final third. Five out of five.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans hailed Georginio Wijnaldum after he scored his first ever away goal in the Premier League.
First time he played the role was away at the Etihad in the CL QF and he was superb.
This season the team has looked so assured with him as the deepest midfielder.— Dan Kennett (@DanKennett) September 15, 2018
Remember throughout the summer when prospective Liverpool XIs were being shared every day, not ONE included James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum.
They’re automatic starters now. And they’ve earned it No arguments.
— Empire of the Kop (@empireofthekop) September 15, 2018
Ok, think it’s official now: Gini Wijnaldum has all the qualities of a top class (maybe eventually world class) holding midfielder. That may not be the best news for Henderson or Fabinho, but sure is for #LFC

Virgil van Dijk produced a commanding performance at the back as well, and received special praise from Liverpool fans.
You seldom hear that Virgil Van Dijk was overpriced anymore. ?
— Bob Sturm (@SportsSturm) September 15, 2018
The best CB in the world is @VirgilvDijk ??⚽️ The difference he has made since he came. So calm. Can play. Strong in the air. Power! Pure power! Big fan! And he wasn’t worth the money? Bet every club wished they had him now ??

I don’t believe there’s a better centre-back in the world than Virgil Van Dijk.
There are a few on a par with him, but not better.
The man doesn’t have a weakness.
