Manchester United are reportedly taking a keen interest in Ruben Neves and could compete with Manchester City for the signature of the Wolves midfielder.
According to Goal, Manchester City could face competition in their pursuit of Ruben Neves. The Citizens were reported to be interested in a January move for the Wolves midfielder. But, it seems Manchester United are also taking a keen look at the Portuguese, with the City fearing a hijack of their pursuit.
Manchester City’s summer transfer window were hit by a series of hijacks, with other teams landing their targets – former and otherwise. Manchester United signed long-term City target Fred while Chelsea took advantage of Maurizio Sarri’s appointment to land Jorginho, a player City believed was heading their way.
In spite of the aforementioned disappointments, Manchester City did start strong, with a couple of convincing wins before they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves, a result they would not be happy with, especially when the opposition’s goal should have been ruled out for a clear handball.
One of the players who starred in the 1-1 draw was Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves. The player is a vital cog within Nuno Espirito Santos and his Wolves setup. The Portuguese though, has been on the radar of the top clubs since his exploits in the Championship last year. Wolves handed Ruben Neves a new six-year deal before the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
But, after the first three matches, it seems Manchester City and Manchester United are now taking a keen interest in Ruben Neves, with both the teams looking to beef up their midfield.
Manchester City have been looking to add a midfielder to their ranks from the beginning of the summer. While they were unable to do so, a January bid for Ruben Neves would definitely be in their plans, with the player able to play for City in European competitions.
Manchester United on the other hand, need to correct their midfield by the look of things. Fred has come in and while he is a bundle of energy, there is a lack of real purpose or direction in the midfield’s passing, something which is rarely seen at a club as big as Manchester United.
The Red Devils are reported to be eyeing Lorenzo Pellegrini for January. But, they could first compete with City for Ruben Neves, with the player well accustomed to English football by now.
The report entails that the clubs will have to muster up something around the £60 million mark to convince Wolves to part with the 21-year-old, if at all.
The January window will definitely be interesting this season for the English clubs, especially with the new summer deadline. We might see some big moves being pulled off by the clubs. Who knows? Ruben Neves might just be one of them.
