Rafael Benitez is keen to re-sign the Brazilian winger, but only a loan deal looks like a viable option for the Magpies as Chelsea quote a high price for the loan star.
According to the Mirror, Rafa Benitez and Newcastle are deep in discussions with Chelsea to re-sign Brazilian winger Kenedy. The deal, however, is thought to be another loan deal after Chelsea were believed to have quoted £30 million to make the deal permanent.
That quoted fee would likely price out Newcastle from making the deal permanent, but that has not deterred their interest in bringing Kenedy back to St. James’ Park for another season, albeit on a season-long loan deal. Kenedy joined Newcastle last January on a six-month loan deal and went on to star for the Magpies impressively.
Kenedy, in his six months at Tyneside, made 13 Premier League appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists, thus impressing Magpies boss Rafa Benitez to pursue his trail for another deal. The winger is keen to play a full season and does not know his situation at Chelsea, after being a bit part player since he joined the Blues back in the summer of 2015.
He is also thought to be open to a permanent move to Newcastle United, but his preference is to stay put at Chelsea and play regular football for the Premier League giants in the coming seasons. He still has two years left on his original deal which ends in the summer of 2020.
The interest in the Brazilian has not been short, as many clubs including Arsenal and RB Leipzig have shown cause to make a move for him. Others including Bayern Munich, PSG and even Liverpool have shown interest. But Kenedy would still prefer Newcastle for there he could play a full season on the pitch rather than on the bench.
Most importantly, after being out of favour under current Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte, Kenedy is waiting to know the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge and along with it, his own standing at the club. A new manager would have ideas for him, but if he feels he could not fit into the new system as well, then a move could be on the cards.
Currently, Kenedy has returned to Chelsea training ahead of their pre-season with Antonio Conte presiding over matters as his situation still remains unclear. Newcastle United will be keeping a close eye on that too, as they are keener than anyone else to bring Kenedy back to their club for a full season, and would like to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
