Wolverhampton Wanderers have lodged a club record bid to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City as they continue their recruitment spree.
Manchester City winger Oleksandr Zinchenko has been the subject of a concrete bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers as the Premier League returnees look to further strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, reports Sky Sports. The proposal is thought to be in the region of £16 million, and if a move is to be finalised, then it would be a club record one for Wolves.
Manchester City, on the other hand, are thought to be open to the idea of selling the Ukranian, meaning the Premier League Champions could entertain the bid from Wolves. City allowing Zinchenko to leave also depends on whether they are able to make their own signings, with many players linked with a move in that position.
Zinchenko made 17 appearances for Manchester City last season, in what was considered a breakthrough year for the young Ukrainian winger. Eight of those appearances came in the Premier League, and incidentally, the player made his debut for City in the Carabao Cup playing against Wolves.
The idea of joining Wolves or any other side might appeal to Zinchenko as he will be likely looking for more, regular playing time to further aid his development. At Manchester City, it could become more and more difficult to see further playing opportunities next season, as City have so many players who are considered ahead of him in the order.
Additionally, the imminent arrival of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City could do further damage to Zinchenko’s chances at City, and it would be a mutually beneficial decision to part ways for both City and Zinchenko. At Wolves, he could become an essential part of the first team and could play way more than he could expect to at City.
Wolves have been active in the market since they gained promotion back to the Premier League. So far the club have signed many players including Willy Roly, Rui Patricio, Leo Bonatini, Diogo Jota and Ruben Vinagre to strengthen their squad, as they aim to survive and progress on their return to the Premier League.
Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves has been the club’s record signing till date, arriving from FC Porto in just under £16 million ahead of last season. If a move for Zinchenko was to be finalised, the Ukrainian will become the club’s record signing.
