Chelsea are aiming to land Robert Lewandowski, but the huge price tag of £200 million is proving to be too much in pursuit of the Bayern Munich striker.
According to a report by Goal, Chelsea want to strike a mega deal to finally sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, and the Blues may offload few players to fund the £200 million asked by Bayern Munich for the services of Polish striker.
Robert Lewandowski arrived at Allianz Arena on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 with an aim to win trophies with one of the dominant sides in Europe. Lewandowski delivered well for the German club as he became the 5th highest scorer in the club’s history, and his 29 league goals in the 2017-18 campaign helped Bayern Munich win the league for the record sixth time in a row.
Even after having successful years at Bayern, Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi made a declaration about his client’s interest to move out from Bayern. Zahavi said,”Robert feels he needs a change and a new challenge in his career. The administration of Bayern knows about that.”
Therefore, it brought interest from Chelsea for the 29-year-old striker, who were also ready to sign him last summer. The Blues are seeking to fortify their forward line after their £60 million signing Alvaro Morata failed to deliver for Chelsea, who is reported to move to Italy next season, amid interest from Serie A clubs.
Moreover, Borussia Dortmund are seriously considering to land Michy Batshuayi on a permanent transfer after the World Cup, following his successful loan spell with German giants. Thus, Chelsea will be short of resources at the front-line, as Oliver Giroud was planned to be a backup after the failures of Morata and not a main striker at the club.
Hence, Chelsea find themselves in a desperate situation to sign a quality-proven player in attack.
Thus, according to further claims by Goal, to successfully fund the transfer of Lewandowski from Chelsea, they are set to offload Morata and Batshuayi. But, a huge price tag of £200million is still a big hurdle financially, and Bavarians are adamant that they would not settle for less than that price.
Additionally, according to several reports, Lewandowski is inclined towards Real Madrid, as his desire to win Champions League at least once in his career, is a big challenge in Chelsea’s pursuit for the Polish striker since Chelsea failed to even qualify for Champions League this season.
It can be a case of now or never for the 29-year-old, as his present contract with the German club runs till 2021, yet he is keen to make a move away from Bayern this summer and has shown interest to play either in England or Spain.
But, whether Chelsea will be his new destination is still a doubt, since the club’s director Marina Granovskaia is known to press for other cheaper alternates in such conditions. But, it is likely that any developments in this transfer will only happen in July, once Lewandowski returns from World Cup.
