Transfer News: Manchester United willing to offer €140 million for Gareth Bale

Manchester United are reportedly set to offer €140 million to sign Gareth Bale, who is also being tailed by Bayern Munich and Tottenham

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Gareth Bale and are ready to pay €140 million to secure his services. The Real Madrid superstar is also being targetted by Bayern Munich and Tottenham for a move in the summer transfer window.

Bale has now been at Real Madrid for five season, but it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for him at the Bernabeu. While the player has been one of the most prolific contributors for Los Blancos over the last five years. he has been constantly pegged back by a spate of injuries.

As a result, Bale has fallen down the pecking order, with manager Zinedine Zidane losing patience due to his constant spells on the sidelines. Despite that, Bale was the second highest scorer for Real Madrid in the season gone by, with 21 goals in all competitions, including a slam-bang bicycle goal that is arguably one of the best ever in Champions League history.

However, after the Champions League win over Liverpool last week, Bale put his Real Madrid future in doubt, hinting that he will soon seek assurances over playing time for next season. With his position at the Bernabeu highly uncertain, several big name clubs are pondering a move, with Manchester United the front-runners in his pursuit.

Manchester United seemed to have ended their long-standing interest in Bale, but following his late season exploits for Real Madrid they are now back in the hunt for him, and set to launch a third attempt to secure his services, and for good reason.

For well over a year, Jose Mourinho has been yearning for a player who can naturally operate from the right flank and provide a pacy outlet in the wide area. The problem didn’t subside upon the signature of Alexis Sanchez in January, and the Manchester United boss is now set to enter the market for a right-sided attacker, with Willian also among those who have been linked.

Bale is still one of the best in the world, when at his 100 per cent, and will undoubtedly be a fine addition at Old Trafford. But, Manchester United are not alone in pursuit of the the Real Madrid superstar, with Tottenham and Bayern Munich also believed to be interested.

While Bayern could be eyeing Bale as the successor to Arjen Robben, who is in the twilight years of his illustrious career, Tottenham could be looking at the Wales international as a player to establish them as Champions League contenders while also elevating their status within the Premier League, and are ready to bring him back from Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, Manchester United look set to make a concrete offer, with a €140 million bid being lined up, while paying Bale over €30 million as salary, which is triple the amount he’s making presently at Real Madrid. The player could indeed be tempted with such a lucrative offer, while Los Blancos stand to make a profit and it remains to be seen if a deal sees the light of the day.
