Arsenal superstar Reiss Nelson is reportedly on the radar of Real Madrid and AS Monaco, with less than 18 months left on his current deal at Emirates.
According to a report from London Evening Standard, Arsenal could be facing another tough situation involving a budding youngster. After the departure of academy prodigies like Serge Gnabry, Chris Willock and others, it seems Reiss Nelson is the next on the list, with the player being linked to the likes of Real Madrid and AS Monaco.
The concerning point in the whole rumour is a lack of initiative from Arsenal, with Nelson’s contract having less than 18 months remaining. Reiss Nelson has finally managed to break through from the Under-23s to the senior squad and his arrival into the first-team setup has been greatly welcomed by the fans.
While he is yet to get off the mark at the senior level for Arsenal, there is little cause for worry as his performances have not been as modest as his tally, with the player often being played out of position as well. Nelson is still learning and this will all be something that he will take in his stride going forward.
But, he could yet see himself shining somewhere else, with Arsenal seemingly not pressing the issue of his contract, which is up in the summer of 2019. The issue might just become more problematic, with the entry of Real Madrid and AS Monaco in the picture.
Real Madrid have been looking to bring in younger profile players in the recent times, with Florentino Perez focusing more on building a young core for the next decade or so. With Los Blancos set to have a summer of rebuild, Reiss Nelson is widely looked upon by the club as a star who can make the senior grade quickly, as fellow Arsenal academy graduate Marcus McGuane has managed to do at Barcelona.
AS Monaco have made it their mission to scout, unearth and develop the gems of world football, which has reflected in their transfer business thus far. Reiss Nelson could be the next one to join the AS Monaco revolution.
In attack, Arsenal do seem stuffed at the moment. And Nelson has a rather difficult choice to make – either bide his time at Arsenal itself or move abroad for perhaps, a better opportunity, as his peers are beginning to do.
English footballers have often been comfortable playing within the country and the approach from the youngsters is a positive and fresh outlook that could benefit English football going ahead. Only time will tell whether Reiss Nelson intends to be a part of the progressive philosophy.
