Mohamed Salah is reportedly set to rebuff a summer approach from Real Madrid, who are plotting a swoop for the Liverpool attacker.
According to a report by Spanish publication Don Balon, Mohamed Salah has no intentions of moving away from Liverpool in the summer. The Egyptian winger is set to snub the advances of Real Madrid to pledge his future to the Premier League heavyweights.
Salah has taken the Premier League by storm, enjoying one of the most remarkable debut campaigns in England following his move to Liverpool from AS Roma last summer. The player has forged a formidable partnership upfront for the Reds alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, with the trio one of the most menacing attacking units in Europe.
On a personal level, Salah has a staggering tally of 31 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. With 23 of those goals coming in the Premier League, the Liverpool hitman is in the running to win the Golden Boot at the end of the season.
But, his meteoric rise in stature has attracted a lot of attention, with one of the biggest clubs in the world now after him. Real Madrid have set their sights on Salah, and are plotting a move to swoop him away from Liverpool to solve their attacking woes.
Los Blancos’ defence of their La Liga title has been an unmitigated disaster, with the entire squad failing on all accounts. But, while their defence had been suspect for a long time, it is Real Madrid’s failings in attack, especially on the domestic front, that have left a lot to be desired.
Karim Benzema is a pale shadow of the once domineering striker that set European football alight with his goalscoring exploits. On top of that, Gareth Bale’s unfortunate tryst with injuries has piled further misery on Zinedine Zidane, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo to shoulder a lot of the goalscoring burden for Real Madrid.
With the league title out of the picture, only Champions League commitments remain on the agenda for the La Liga heavyweights. Real Madrid have, thus, already turned their attention towards revamping Zidane’s squad to create a solid base for next season, making Salah a viable target who could bring a lot of goals to the Bernabeu.
The Liverpool winger could be a like for like replacement for Bale on the right side of attack, with the Welshman being heavily linked with a summer move away from Real Madrid. But, neither are the Reds willing to lose a key player for the second successive transfer window, nor is Salah himself eager to leave.
The Egypt international is set to turn a deaf ear to Real Madrid’s approach as he is happy with his role under Jurgen Klopp, who has brought the best out of him. Salah is now determined to achieve success with Liverpool as the Merseyside club aim to become genuine Premier League contenders.
As far as Real Madrid are concerned, they will have to turn their attention elsewhere in order to bolster a faltering attack in the summer. It now remains to be seen who they identify as the player to help them solve their goalscoring woes in the summer, with Salah set to stay at Liverpool.
