Manchester United legend Clayton Blackmore believes it’s a no-brainer for the club to hand a new and improved contract to Luke Shaw.
In an interview with Tribal Football, Manchester United legend Clayton Blackmore has claimed that Luke Shaw is destined to be with the Red Devils for years. The 1992-93 Premier League winner believes that the English defender belongs a Old Trafford, and it’s a no-brainer for the club to extend his deal.
Shaw has had a roller-coaster journey at Manchester United since then becoming the world’s most expensive teenager upon a £27 million move from Southampton in the summer of 2014. The first three years at Old Trafford were nothing short of a torment for the player, though, as he struggled to establish himself as a regular.
A long-term injury was sandwiched by two seasons when he struggled to match up to the required fitness levels. But, the 2017-18 season has seen Shaw kickstart his Manchester United career, albeit belatedly so, after making his first Premier League appearance of the campaign in December.

Consistent performances have meant that the 22-year-old is back in Jose Mourinho’s good books, having started seven of the last 10 top flight games for Manchester United. This has been an interesting turn of events, particularly when it comes to Mourinho, who was reportedly ready to sell the defender heading into the January transfer window.
But, the pair seem to be back on good terms, which has also been evident on and off the pitch, with Mourinho recently saying that Shaw will stay at Manchester United “for years”. Those sentiments echo that of club legend Clayton Blackmore, who believes the Red Devils should offer him a new deal soon.
“He’s definitely good enough to be a United player. Unless you’re there you don’t know what has happened between them [Mourinho and Shaw]. For me, the injury was a bad one that has kept him out I’m glad to see him back looking sharp and quick. For me, it’s a no brainer you’ve got to keep him in there.”
Recent reports have indeed suggested that Manchester United are set to hand Shaw a new deal, with less than 18 months left on his current contract. It now remains to be seen if the player does get a new deal on his table as he continues to receive words of praise for his displays on the field.
