Chelsea will reportedly shift their attention back towards Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente, if other targets do not pan out.
According to The Sun, Chelsea will shift their focus back towards attempting a deal for Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente, with their pursuit of other forwards not panning out the way they hoped to be. Fernando Llorente has been linked since the summer as a potential addition to the squad at Stamford Bridge.
Fernando Llorente had snubbed advances from Chelsea to join local rivals Tottenham, a move that has not panned out well so far for the Spanish veteran. The forward has managed just 2 goals and 1 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.
However, the statistics might look a bit deceiving, with the 32-year-old getting just 698 minutes of football at Tottenham so far. The forward might be frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Spurs and could contemplate a move away, which is where Chelsea is looking to pounce.
Chelsea have been linked with a flurry of names, all of whom seem to be have two common denominators – experience of playing in the Premier League and aerial prowess. And, not many strikers can boast of a better header in their bag of skills than Llorente himself.

Chelsea looked to have received a shot in their arm in pursuit of Edin Dzeko first, and then, Olivier Giroud as well. But, Dzeko’s pursuit has petered out while there are reports that Chelsea have chosen to withdraw their interest in the Arsenal forward.
Tottenham had purchased Llorente for around £14 million and would want to sell on a premium, according to incoming reports. But, it could be a transfer that Chelsea are more or less compelled to puruse, with other pursuits nowhere close to being a done deal.
Llorente could actually slot in well at Chelsea. The Tottenham forward had a really good partnership with Alvaro Morata during their time together at Juventus and the arrival of the Spaniard could spur his compatriot on to replicate his Juventus form.
There are just a couple of days left in the transfer market and while Chelsea have been frustrated in their search for a striker, the Blues have become known for their recently established penchant to complete deadline-day deals. Llorente’s pursuit is also set to go down the wire.
