Transfer News: Chelsea unwilling to splash £60 million to land Alex Sandro

Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to splurge to the tune of £60 million to land Juventus superstar Alex Sandro, also a target for Manchester United.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea remain interested in Juventus superstar Alex Sandro but are facing a new stumbling block in the Brazilian’s pursuit. Juventus have placed a £60 million price tag on the player, who is also a target for Manchester United, an amount Chelsea do not intend to splurge on the marauding left-back.

Alex Sandro set the stage alight in Serie A after joining Juventus from FC Porto. But, after over two seasons and 95 appearances at the club, the Brazilian is set to call it quits after becoming disenchanted with life in Italy. Premier League seems to be his likeliest destination, with the player being linked to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Chelsea want more options at left wing-back and Alex Sandro would serve as an upgrade to both Marcos Alonso and Davide Zappacosta in the said position, mainly due to the player seemingly being a perfect fit within the Conte system. Despite reports of Chelsea pulling out of the race to sign Alex Sandro, the report states that the club remain interested in the player.

At Manchester United, the problem is a lot simpler. Jose Mourinho has Luke Shaw as the only recognised left-back in his squad, one he has chosen not to field until recently. And despite the player’s renaissance, a club of Manchester United’s stature cannot go forward with just one natural left-back in their squad.

Juventus too, seem to have agreed to part ways with the player in January. But, it is their asking price which is proving to be a stumbling block. With Juventus asking for a hefty £60 million, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United would much rather pursue alternatives that are cheaper and have a lot more years to give to the respective clubs.

Chelsea would much rather focus on FC Porto player Alex Telles while Manchester United could go for the likes of Kieran Tierney and Ryan Sessegnon.

According to the report from Telegraph, Chelsea are already baulking at the price tag, with the club unwilling to match the £60 million asking price, which seems even the more crazier if one considers the player’s ineligibility to be involved in either of the suitor’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

Hence, despite Alex Sandro’s wish to leave Juventus and the Italian outfit’s willingness to part ways with the player in January, the £60 million asking price could see the Brazilian stay in Turin beyond the January transfer window. Unless Juventus lower their price tag, it is difficult to see a move going through.
