Transfer Rumour: Manchester United set to resume pursuit of Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale

Manchester United are reportedly set to step up their pursuit of Gareth Bale with Jose Mourinho eyeing attacking reinforcements this summer.

Spanish publication Don Balon Manchester United are set to make their move for Gareth Bale. The Red Devils have been interested in signing the Real Madrid superstar for several years, but are now set to step up their efforts to land him, with Jose Mourinho eager to recruit an attacking player this summer.

Bale is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, with his career taking a constant upward trajectory since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in the summer of 2013. Additionally, the Wales international has forged a formidable attacking trio at the Bernabeu – the BBC – alongside Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The three players have been the cornerstone of the unprecedented success that Los Blancos have enjoyed in the last four years, scoring at will at times. However, a spate of injuries have restricted Bale’s role in the Real Madrid first-team setup, managing just 58 appearances in the last two seasons.

His record though, is still commendable, with a return of 28 goals and 20 assists suggesting that he remains a key figure at the Bernabeu. But, the player’s time at Real Madrid could soon come to an end, with Manchester United set to go all out in his pursuit.

The Premier League club have been long-time admirers of Bale’s talents, having made several attempts to sign him previously. The Red Devils, though, are confident that they can tempt the Welshman to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Jose Mourinho has publicly stated that he has instructed Ed Woodward to secure the services of an attacking player this summer in order to help him create a formidable squad for the forthcoming season.

The Manchester United boss currently has the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial as his options in attack, with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku being his two strikers.

But while Martial provides a pacy outlet from the left wing, Mourinho does not have a player to provide a burst of pace while adding goals from the opposite flank. As a result, the interest in Bale has been accelerated, who could be forced to sharing game time owing to his injury woes as well as Isco’s resurgence as an attacking mainstay.

Bale, though, remains committed to Real Madrid, meaning it would take a substantial offer to persuade him to join Manchester United. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United can finally succeed in their pursuit of the Welsh superstar, or if they are forced to set their sights elsewhere.
