Chelsea are reportedly seeking a deal for Fernando Llorente from Swansea City to get him to act as a mentor for new £65 million signing Alvaro Morata.
According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea are considering a summer swoop for Fernando Llorente in an attempt to get the former Juventus striker to act as a mentor for Alvaro Morata.
Swansea are demanding about £30 million for Fernando Llorente – a player who has truly been a key element in their squad. However, Chelsea are unwilling to shell out that much cash and the financial aspect could prove to be a stumbling block.
Interestingly, Llorente has worked with both Conte and Morata during their time at Juventus and the Chelsea boss believes that he could act as the ideal mentor to help Morata blossom into a formidable striker as the Blues go about trying to defend the coveted Premier League trophy next season.
Llorente is richly experienced at the age of 32 and has proven his Premier League quality after bagging an impressive 15 goals in his first season of English football. It is understood that he will act as a back-up option to Morata and also guide the younger player into reaching the true depths of his potential.
Chelsea are rumoured to lose Bertrand Traore, Tammy Abraham and even Diego Costa, who is strongly being linked to an exit move this summer. And while signing Morata was a big step, Conte will now need to focus on extracting the best out of the former Real Madrid man.
Morata was linked to Manchester United for major parts of the transfer window but once Romelu Lukaku joined the Red Devils, Conte upped the ante and went for Morata – a deal which did end in his favour.
Additionally, the Blues were also linked to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but they dropped that pursuit once they inked a deal with Morata.
However, Morata has faced a lack of playing time with the Spanish club and he will need to focus on regaining his confidence and focus on quickly establishing himself into Chelsea’s attack line.
The Blues will have a busy season ahead and if they manage to sign Llorente as well, it will be a double advantage since the senior player can help develop Morata’s skills further and also act as an experienced yet sharp back-up for Conte in the case of injuries.
