Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a stunning move to sign Robert Lewandowski whose future at Bayern Munich is under question
Daily Mirror are claiming that Chelsea now have another attacking superstar within their sights. Robert Lewandowski, whose future at Bayern Munich is now under question after reports emerged of his unhappiness at the club, is being eyed by the Blues as a possible replacement for Diego Costa.
Robert Lewandowski may have blossomed into a world class striker at Dortmund. But, it is at Bayern where he has established his credibility of being one of the most potent attacking outlets in world football, proving himself under two different managers at the Allianz Arena.
The present season was no exception either, as the Polish international racked up 43 goals and 10 assists in just 47 appearances in all competitions combined. The player is contracted to the club till 2021 and has often played down rumours of an exit to join Real Madrid.
However, there is a fresh bone of contention, with the striker reportedly unsettled and unhappy at the fact that his teammates did not help him enough to become the highest scorer in the domestic league this season – a rumour further backed up by his agent, Maik Barthel’s quotes.
“Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach [ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti] gave no call to help him in the last game to win the top-scorer title. He was disappointed as I have ever seen him before,” said Barthel.
Robert Lewandowski’s league record for Bayern:
2014/15: 31 games, 17 goals ⚽️
2015/16: 32 games, 30 goals ⚽️

And it seems there is a Premier League giant waiting to pounce on the opportunity, should Lewandowski become available in the summer. The recently crowned Premier League champions are set to defend their title along with added fixtures to their list, with the club qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Their strike force, though, lacks depth and edge. Diego Costa, their top scorer, is set to exit the club after Antonio Conte conveyed his thoughts to the Spaniard, relaying him that he has no future at Stamford Bridge under the Italian manager.
Cost aside, the club only has Michy Batshuayi, who has failed to live up to expectations so far. Dominic Solanke has already jumped ship to join Liverpool while Bertrand Traore is also tipped to leave the club, as is Tammy Abraham, albeit on a loan.
Amidst all this, a move for Robert Lewandowski makes sense. The 28-year-old’s movement off-the-ball and ability to link up with teammates is something that could really add another dimension to the Chelsea arsenal. It will be interesting to see whether the Pole will seek for a move away from the Allianz Arena.
There is no indication that he wants to move and with Bayern having a monopoly in Bundesliga along with a strong squad to challenge for the Champions League, the striker may prefer to stay. However, if he does decide to move, Chelsea could prove to be a shock destination for the 28-year-old.
