Transfer Rumour: Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to snub Manchester United to return to former side Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku will see off interest from Manchester United to reunite with his former teammates at Chelsea

According to Ken Lawrence of the Sun, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will rebuff any offers that come his way from Manchester United to join former employers Chelsea at the end of the season.

The Belgian star has reportedly informed his agent Mino Raiola that it is his dream to return to Stamford Bridge, and if both clubs are to weigh in with offers, it will be a no brainer for the player, as he will pick the London outfit.

Lukaku was regarded as one of the next-generation strikers for the Blues, but was unceremoniously sold to Everton in 2014 by current Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who was then in charge of affairs at Chelsea.

The striker had impressed in his loan spells with Everton and West Brom, and was expected to break into the team. Yet, Mourinho did not expect the player to progress and offloaded him to Merseyside for a club record fee of £28 million.

Since his move to Goodison Park, Lukaku has grown from strength to strength to become one of the Premier League’s most feared marksmen. In fact, he is atop the goal-scoring charts for this term and is expected to win the Golden Boot.

Arguably at the peak of his career, Lukaku isn’t satisfied with mid-table finishes and trophyless campaigns with Everton, and has affirmed his desire to compete with top European clubs in the UEFA Champions League.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman, too, has gone on record to state that the player is unwilling to sign a contract. This news has come at a perfect time for Chelsea as they are dealing with a situation with their attacker Diego Costa.

The China rumours do not seem to be going away, and it is almost certain that the Spain international will leave the club in the summer. There is a reported interest from his former club Atletico Madrid as well, and it remains to be seen where he decides to go.

Mourinho, on the other hand, is unlikely to convince Lukaku to move to Old Trafford, due to their interactions in the past, and also because United are yet to secure a berth in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
