Arsenal are reportedly plotting a £20 million move to land Emil Forsberg from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window
According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal are planning to launch a £20 million offer to sign Emil Forsberg from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. Liverpool are also reported to be monitoring the Swedish midfielder over a summer move.
RB Leipzig have sent shock waves across Europe this season, climbing up to second in the Bundesliga table and qualifying for Europe in what has been only their maiden campaign in the German top flight. Smart recruitment has been the key to club’s tremendous success, with several players playing key roles for the East German club.
One such player is Emil Forsberg. A 25-year-old Swedish midfielder who is currently in his second season at the Red Bull Arena, Forsberg is equally adept at playing on either wing and has been a revelation for Leipzig as their creative force all through the campaign.
Forsberg has played 26 games in Bundesliga this season for Leipzig, scoring 8 goals and providing a league-high 17 assists so far. That tally is six more than the next best in the German top-flight, and it goes without saying that the Swedish international is one of the most creative players in Europe.
As Forsberg continues to come into his own, he is starting to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Of these, Liverpool have been long-time admirers of the player’s talents and have been heavily linked with a move for him in recent months.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has often been criticised of late for a serious lack of depth in his squad, an issue that has played a part in his side’s form blowing hot and cold since the turn of the year. A player of Forsberg’s calibre can not only solve that problem but also bring a lot of value to his squad, due to his unrivalled creative instinct.
However, the Reds are now set to be challenged by Premier League rivals, Arsenal in the race to sign him in the summer. The North London club are in a precarious situation with several players in the first team squad being linked with a summer exit from the Emirates.
The biggest of these is Mesut Ozil, whose departure can deprive Arsenal of a lot of creativity. Forsberg, thus presents himself as an option worth considering, with his record speaking for himself. As a result, Arsenal are set to launch the offensive for him with an offer of £20 million in the offing.
Having said that, Forsberg recently confessed that he’s a boyhood Liverpool fan, and a bid from the Reds could swing things in their favour. It will be interesting to see how things develop as two of the biggest clubs in England vie for Forsberg’s signature.
