Manchester United are reportedly set to table a new £120,000-a-week deal to Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to offer a bumper new contract to Ander Herrera in the summer, in a deal that will see the Spanish midfield maestro earn £120,000-a-week.
Herrera arrived at Manchester United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014 in a £29million deal and immediately became a regular in his very first season in England. However, a disappointing second season followed, which saw the Spaniard fall down the pecking order.
With opportunities in the first team not coming regularly, there were fears that Herrera would prefer to move on from his role as a squad player. However, the appointment of Jose Mourinho at the helm at Old Trafford has seen the Spaniard resurrect his Manchester United career.
He is now one of the first names on the team sheet, having become one of the most influential players for the Portuguese manager. In fact, Herrera has now evolved into one of the most complete players in the Premier League, with the ability to make an impact in all areas of the pitch.
His work-rate has allowed the 27-year-old to halt some of the most dangerous forwards in the English top flight in their tracks, while the remarkable vision he possesses has seen him create a lot of big goalscoring chances for his teammates.
All this and more have also resulted in Herrera earning his first call up with the Spanish national side culminating in an international debut last month. Suffice to say that things are going swimmingly for the Spaniard as he continues blooming under Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Last weekend, Herrera gave an account of just how far he has come under the tutelage of Mourinho, as he kept Chelsea’s talisman, Eden Hazard quiet all game long, assisted the opening goal for Marcus Rashford and grabbed the winner for himself as Manchester United convincingly beat the Premier League leaders 2-0.
Hence, it does not come as much of a surprise that Manchester United are now ready to offer a new deal with improved terms to Herrera. In fact, they are ready to reward Herrera for his superlative performances this season with a £120,000-a-week deal.
The club officials at Manchester United plan to open talks with Herrera’s camp before the start of next season. And all signs point towards the player and his representatives accepting the terms, especially after Herrera confirmed earlier in February that he would be happy to sign a renewal with the club.
This is one news that is sure to go down well with the Manchester United faithfuls as we enter the final stage of the season and a lot is at stake for the Red Devils in the closing stages. It goes without saying that they would now be waiting with bated breath for the club to announce the renewal.
