Jose Mourinho has hit back at Chelsea fans that called him ‘Judas’ during the FA Cup quarter-final on Monday
It wasn’t the best of returns to Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho as he watched his former employers Chelsea dismantle his current side Manchester United in the final eight of the FA Cup.
Despite the scoreline reading 1-0, Chelsea were by far the more superior team, and wouldn’t it be for David de Gea’s exploits in front of goal, they could have scored a few more to create daylight between themselves and the Red Devils.
The Blues began the game as favourites and dominated proceedings from the outset. Mourinho’s decision to play a 3-5-2 backfired, and for the second time in as many games he was outdone by his opposite number Antonio Conte.
Things went from bad to worse for Mourinho as in the 35th minute, United midfielder Ander Herrera received his marching orders for a second yellow card. There was scepticism as many thought that the second yellow was unwarranted by Michael Oliver, but the English referee stuck to his decision and put the Manchester outfit’s chances in serious jeopardy.
What then added to their woes was a long-ranged effort from N’Golo Kante in the 51st minute that sealed the deal for the Blues. United had just one big chance from then until the end of the game, but Marcus Rashford failed to find a way past Thibaut Courtois.
After the final whistle, Mourinho was appreciative of the fight his team put up against the Premier League leaders, but had a message for the Chelsea fans who were calling him names throughout the course of the match.
A fan favourite at Stamford Bridge before taking up the United job, Mourinho was called a number of different abuses by the fans in attendance on Monday. They also compared him to “Judas” and said that he was no longer the “Special One.”
The Portuguese silenced the fans by lifting three fingers, signifying the number of titles he won for the Blues, and also addressed the chants that were hinted at him.

According to the BBC, he said: “Until the moment they have a manager that wins four Premier Leagues for them, I’m the number one.
“Until then, Judas is number one. They can call me what they want. I am a professional. I defend my club.”
Mourinho then spoke about his side’s performances and choose to give an indifferent opinion about Oliver’s decision to send off Herrera. He stated:
“I’m really proud of my players, I’m really proud of Manchester United fans.”
“I don’t want to go in that direction. In four matches he [Oliver] has given three penalties and a red card. I cannot change that. I shook his hand and said many congratulations.”
