Paris Saint-Germain forward Julian Draxler has invited his international teammate Mesut Ozil to leave Arsenal and join him at Parc des Princes.
Julian Draxler, who only signed for French champions PSG in January, has asked his international teammate Mesut Ozil to leave Arsenal and join him in Paris, after taking well to life in the French capital since his big money move.
Draxler was speaking to BeIN Sports France when he was asked about a Germany teammate he would like PSG to sign, and he didn’t hesitate for a moment when he said: “There is one fellow Germany international I would like to see here: Mesut Ozil.”
Julian Draxler has settled in quickly in Paris, and has been an instant hit for PSG ever since his £34 million move from Wolfsburg last month. Having ended his Wolfsburg spell in rather acrimonious fashion, the Germany international has started his career in France with aplomb.
The 23-year-old has scored four times in six competitive appearances for Les Parisiens and as he looks to make the left wing position at the Parc des Princes his own, he seems to have already established himself as one of the key figures in Unai Emery’s squad.
Having been an instant success in France, Draxler said that he would recommend his compatriots to Ligue 1 should they be looking for a move abroad: “The Bundesliga remains very attractive to Germans. I chose to come here to have an experience abroad. Would I advise other Germans to come to Ligue 1? Without a doubt, yes I would!”
Draxler, though, is clear on the one German he’d like to have alongside him at PSG, urging Mesut Ozil to swap Emirates Stadium for Parc des Princes. With just under 18 months for his contract at Arsenal to run down, and there have been little developments as regards to a renewal, the proposal does seem enticing.
Ozil has iterated that he’d be happy to sign a new contract with the Gunners but wanted more clarity on the future of manager Arsene Wenger before signing a new deal with the club. With no signs of a new contract in the offing, he has been a subject of constant speculation, having been linked to Barcelona and Manchester United in recent months.
The Arsenal hierarchy, though, on their part would be sweating over an extension. That is because, despite a slight dip in form this season, Ozil has bagged eight goals and nine assists in 27 appearances in all competitions and remains an important member in Arsene Wenger’s squad.
For now, it remains to be seen whether Ozil is ready to commit his future to Arsenal, or if he would like a new challenge by possibly accepting Draxler’s invitation of a move to PSG.
