Liverpool are in talks with Manchester City over a move for goalkeeper Joe Hart when his Torino loan ends, according to reports.
Turin based newspaper Tuttosport (h/t Goal) have reported that Liverpool have approached rivals Manchester City over a move for their goalkeeper Joe Hart, who is out on loan at Torino currently, once his temporary Italian stay ends.
Joe Hart has had a bittersweet career with Manchester City. His solid presence between the sticks for Manchester City saw him rack up individual as well as club honours.
Hart won the Premier League Golden Glove in 2010/11, 11/12, 12/13 and 14/15, apart from being named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2012, and also lifted the Premier League trophy in 2011/12 and 14/15 as well as the League Cup in 2013/14 and 15/16 with Manchester City.
However, the arrival of Pep Guardiola to the Etihad Stadium this past summer saw Hart lose his place in the starting lineup, with the new Manchester City boss preferring goalkeepers who were good with their feet as well, bringing in Claudio Bravo to the club.
Having been relegated to being the third choice goalkeeper for the Citizens, Hart chose to move on from the club and joined Torino on loan at the fag end of the transfer window.
So far, his career as a Torino goalkeeper has been somewhat successful, playing every single minute of league football for the Turin club, and keeping five clean sheets in 18 games.
As the 29-year-old enters the last six months of his Torino loan spell, his future has been a matter of constant speculation. Hart will still have two years remaining on his Manchester City contract when the loan spell ends, but it looks highly unlikely that Guardiola will reinstate him in goal despite Bravo’s struggles this season.
And the reports states that, with chances of reclaiming his place in the Manchester City being very slim, the club has been sounded out over a move for Hart in the summer. Manchester City will demand €15 million for the England international.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping problems are all too well known, with Simon Mignolet being highly inconsistent and new signing Loris Karius only impressing in patches. However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he sees Karius as his long-term goalkeeper.
With that in mind, it looks highly unlikely that the Reds will make a move for Hart when the transfer window opens in the summer, despite being linked with the goalkeeper on numerous occasions.
