Wayne Rooney’s career in numbers as he equals Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally of most goals for Manchester United [Video]

Wayne Rooney’s landmark goal against Reading saw him equal Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for the club. The 31-year-old’s strike was one of four goals as the Red Devils marched into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 win against Reading.

Captain for club and country, Rooney managed to achieve the improbable feat in 543 appearances – 215 games quicker than Sir Bobby. Speaking after the game, Rooney said, according to the BBC, that it was an honour to be there alongside one of the most reputed figures in world football.

In 2015, the 31-year-old eclipsed Sir Bobby’s goal scoring record for England and will do it with just one more goal for Manchester United. Despite all the criticism that has come his way this season, Rooney has continued to replicate the performances the Old Trafford faithful have cherished over the last decade.
