The London based club have made their interest in the midfielder apparent to Fiorentina by lodging an opening bid
Chelsea have left behind AC Milan and Inter in the race to sign Fiorentina’s wantaway midfielder Milan Badelj according to Italian outlet, Premium Sport (h/t Calciomercato). The report suggests the Premier League club have, out of the blue, tabled an ‘important bid’ for the player to La Viola and now find themselves in pole position to sign the Croatian international after the Italian club seemed to be satisfied by the opening offer.
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder has rejected an approach for a contract renewal from Fiorentina and it is an established fact that wants a move away from the club, with Dejan Joksimovic, Badelj’s agent, confirming they are in talks with a few clubs.
The player’s current contract ends in June 2018, which means he will only have a year left on his deal at the end of this season.
In his own words, Dejan Joksimovic stated, “He (Badelj) will certainly leave the club in June 2018, that is sure. Anything is possible and he could leave much earlier but that’s up to Fiorentina to decide when to sell.”
“Milan represent our first choice. Badelj had an excellent rapport with Montella and his current presence on the Rossoneri bench is one of the many reasons why Badelj would like to be part of Milan.”
The agent also confirmed an offer of around €15 million will be enough for Fiorentina to consider into selling the Croatian international due to his contract situation.
Chelsea have been reported to be interested in bringing in a midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window with manager Antonio Conte said to be desperate to add more steel in midfield. As such, Milan Badelj could turn out to be inspired signing for Chelsea in January, considering the low cost at which the midfielder could be acquired.
