Manchester City and Juventus are ready to capitalise on Alexis Sanchez’s contract situation at Arsenal after rumours emerged that talks between the Chilean and the Gunners have stalled.
Arsenal are desperate to secure the long-term futures of two of their biggest stars, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. It has been reported that the Gunners have opened talks over a new contract with the duo, but their wage demands have proven to be the bone of contention.
Not surprisingly, this has fuelled speculation regarding the futures of Ozil and Sanchez. Recently, reports in the English media claimed rivals Manchester United are planning an audacious swoop for the German playmaker.
In similar vein, the Daily Mirror have suggested that Manchester City and Juventus are closely monitoring the alleged contract standoff between Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal, with a view of pouncing if an opportunity arises to sign the attacker. The report states both Manchester City and Juventus are preparing for a £50 million battle for the player should he fail to agree a deal with the London based club.
The Mirror claims the former Barcelona forward wants a significant rise on his current weekly earnings of £130,000. The Gunners have a strict wage structure in place, but Sanchez wants £200,000 per week, which would make him the highest earner at the club.
Alexis Sanchez’s current contract with the club runs until 2018, which means he only has 18 months left on his contract. If an agreement is not reached between the two entities, the club could risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form this season, playing in a new number nine role for the club. The forward has already scored 8 goals and set up a teammate on 5 occasions in 15 appearances in 2016/17.
Alexis Sanchez has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League and as such, interest from Manchester City comes as no surprise given his contract situation. It is also worth pointing out that City boss Pep Guardiola has previously worked with the player during his time at Barcelona and is reportedly a huge admirer of the Chilean. However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal acquiesce to Sanchez’s demands or whether a compromise can be reached.
