Manchester City are set to secure Fernandinho’s future at the club, with the Brazilian close to agreeing a new bumper contract to stay with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Daily Mail report that Fernandinho is close to agreeing a new deal to extend his contract at Manchester City. The Brazilian is reportedly poised to put pen-to-paper to a new deal after becoming a key player in the current City squad for new manager Pep Guardiola.
Fernandinho joined Manchester City from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and has since become an integral part of the Citizens’ team. The arrival of Pep Guardiola did not make much change in the player’s first-team squad status, with the former Barcelona manager favouring the player to play in a holding role.
One may make the case that Fernandinho’s regular playing time is also, for a portion, down to the breakdown in the relationship between Pep Guardiola and Yaya Toure. However, the 31-year-old Brazilian has justified Pep’s preference by putting in strong performances and the midfielder looks assured in possession too.
Fernandinho has entered his final 12 months of his current contract and would be eligible to talk to teams outside of the English Premier League from the turn of the year, which has sent Manchester City officials into panic.
The Citizens are reportedly moving with speed in order to ensure a new deal is agreed upon before the dawn of 2017, when other clubs could tempt the player with offers on the table.
It is reported that Fernandinho was holding off on signing a new deal before learning how he stands in relation to Guardiola’s first-team setup. With the player being first choice for the holding midfield position now, the 31-year-old is likely to agree to a new deal without much hassle, which is rumoured to be a two-year extension on his current deal, along with a significant pay bump.

Daily Mail claim that Manchester City appeared to have suffered a major blow in their attempt to extend the England U-19 international’s contract. The player’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and the teenager has already attracted interest from fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham and Everton.
Manchester City are reportedly desperate to agree a contract extension for Adarabioyo and keep the player at Etihad, but their numerous attempts have been knocked back by the 19-year-old, who is demanding first-team assurances at the club before putting pen-to-paper on any new deal.
The Mail report also added that Tosin is willing to part with the club in case of no assurance of him playing a more prominent role or if some other club offers him so, which is not likely to be a problem with the player being highly rated in England.
Pep Guardiola is rumoured to rate the 19-year-old highly and wants the player to agree a new deal at the club. However, with several central defenders ahead of Adarabioyo at this time at Etihad, the Spaniard manager knows that the defender would have to bide his time in order to get first-team chances, something which the Englishman is not intent on doing.
This situation looks problematic for City as they could lose one of their brilliant academy products, if the present scenario worsens in the near future.
