Sporting Lisbon president has revealed he would love for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to come back and retire at his boyhood club.
It almost feels like yesterday when a young winger was making waves in the Champions League ripping apart a star-studded and illustrious Manchester United at the inauguration of his club’s new Jose Alvalade Stadium, a game Sporting won 3-1.
The young winger was none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, who was signed up only a while after he handed Sir Alex Ferguson and his United side a lesson in terms of flair and skill. The Portuguese has now gone on to reach bewildering heights and has had one of the most coveted careers in football history, with the final chapter still miles away.
Cristiano has often spoken of his desire to retire at Real Madrid and while it would present an amicable situation, a homecoming and subsequent retirement at Sporting is likely to take the cake.
Sporting president Bruno De Carvalho talked to Marca ahead of their visit to Santiago Bernabeu where they would face Real Madrid and their youth product Cristiano Ronaldo. He was asked as to the possibility of taking Ronaldo back to the club.
Carvalho did not hesitate one bit and said, “Yes, without a doubt, I would love for Ronaldo to end his career here, at home. He represents a lot for us and it would be beautiful if he could end his career here.”
Asked about his team facing Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League, Carvalho said, as quoted by ESPN, “It’s going to be special to come up against him just as it’s going to be special for him, as was seen in Ronaldo’s face when he found out in the draw that he would face us.”
“We are playing against our boy and he is playing against the team where he formed himself as a player. It’s going to be beautiful.”
It is indeed going to be an emotional night for Cristiano Ronaldo and all the Sporting fans world-wide as they see their once-young prodigy go up against them, albeit as a global icon.
