Ex-Manchester United and England striker Andy Cole thinks that Ryan Giggs should be the one taking over the managerial job at Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal.

Andy Cole was part of the legendary treble-winning Manchester United squad of 1999 and the player turned pundit recently expressed his belief that Ryan Giggs would be the best successor to Louis van Gaal.

.

“I liked the idea of my old team-mate Ryan Giggs replacing Van Gaal… Ryan will make a good manager in a few years and Ia m sure his teams would be inclined to play attacking football”, Cole said in his column for Yahoo Sports.

“Hea s hard, focused, clinical and knows football. Hea s done his badges and passed them all. He doesna t have much experience managing at the top level, but nor did Pep Guardiola when he took over a very good Barcelona team whoa d won the European Cup two years previously.

“If Ryan was to takeover at United tomorrow then he wouldna t have that luxury. For Ryan to take the job now would be very difficult, but hea s learned a lot since he started coaching. Hea s seen how tough it can be when things arena t going your way, though his reputation has not been enhanced sitting on the sideline as the players out front have struggled.”

Van Gaal’s touchline presence is terrible

Louis van Gaal has attracted a lot of criticism for his unemotional touchline presence at Manchester United as well and Andy Cole added to that, citing Ryan Giggs’s aggressive signalling and shouting on the touchline in their game against Norwich City as something he’d appreciate in a coach.

“Ia m glad he was off the bench during the Norwich game and encouraging his players. Ia d rather see than a coach looking at flip charts”, Cole said.
