Fans and pundits remain divided over Louis van Gaala s explosive pre-match press conference as the Dutchman demanded an apology from the members of the press for spreading rumours regarding his sacking on social media.

The press conference lasted a total of 4 minutes and 58 seconds as Van Gaal asked the journalists present to a enjoy the wine and a mince piea before bidding them goodbye. However, Van Gaala s press conference evoked mixed reactions as some claimed that he was justified in walking out of the room.

MUTV presenter says Van Gaal “did the best thing possible” by walking out of press conference

a Rob Harris (@RobHarris) December 23, 2015

I support #VanGaal. Moyles left Man Utd in a bargain basement position before he was sacked. Give the man a break. Jeez. #VulturesInThePress a Stanley (@StanleyIy_) December 23, 2015

He’s only human, what he said was spot on, and to finish ‘enjoy the wine and a mince pie!’ #VanGaal

a Just some bloke (@Strider35) December 23, 2015

Others however, weren’t convinced with his press-conference. While some compared his rant to Benitez’s at Liverpool, others claimed that Van Gaal had clearly ‘lost the plot’ at Manchester United.

Louis Van Gaal clearly studied the Rafa Rant in advance of his presser. That went well. #louislosesit

Feel so sorry for Louis Van Gaal after that press conference a no-one (@udonthave_swag) December 23, 2015

Deluded Van Gaal tries to play the victim, but what about the fans who have to suffer his uninspiring football?

Fergie last week: a You have to win the game & …win the press conference. You have to give a msg to your fans.a Did Van Gaal lose presser? a Rob Harris (@RobHarris) December 23, 2015

Van Gaal has cracked. For someone so self-assure/arrogant/confident, why does he care if stories were written about his job?

.
Piers Morgan too had something to say as Manchester United fans demanded Van Gaal’s attacking ferocity from their players on the pitch.

Rather than demand apologies from the media, I suggest Louis van Gaal says sorry to United fans for the way he’s making their team play.

Thats the fire weve been waiting to see Van Gaal now take this to managing on the pitch @ManUtd a Bryce Jones (@TheFake_BobRoss) December 23, 2015

That press conference was the most attacking Louis Van Gaal has been all season.

Is a result business n LVG shld know that…What abt d likes of Pellegrini that has to deal with d Pep saga on a daily basis… #MUFC a Henry Umeh (@rocalitos) December 23, 2015

As opinions remain divided over Van Gaala s press-conference, it is his performance in the coming weeks that will ultimately decide his future at Manchester United. Though the Dutchman came out all guns blazing at the press-conference, a lackluster performance from the team over the Christmas period will once again put him in the dock.

While there are those who have appreciated his comments against the members of the press, his latest rant is likely to have painted a target on his back. Hence, it will be interesting to see if he receives any support from the media should United continue to suffer on the pitch.
