Hitting out against Louis van Gaala s conservative tactics, Paul Scholes claimed that he wouldna t have enjoyed playing under the Dutchman at Manchester United. The Englishman also defended club captain Wayne Rooney for his recent goal slump, claiming that most world-class strikers would have struggled to play in Van Gaala s teams.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Paul Scholes compared Louis van Gaal to Sir Alex Ferguson in an interview with BBC Radio as he opined that the Dutchman did not organise his teams to take risks and be creative.

Not a team I would have enjoyed playing in

.

While Paul Scholes complimented Van Gaal for his defensive set-up, the former Manchester United player claimed that his team lack the creative spark that set apart Alex Fergusona s teams at Old Trafford. Scholes went on to say that Van Gaala s teams were both difficult to play against and to play in.

a It’s a team you wouldn’t want to play against and its probably a team you wouldn’t want to play in either.

a There’s a lack of risk and creativity. It seems he doesn’t want players to beat men and score goals — it’s not a team I would have enjoyed playing in.a

Van Gaala s Manchester United is a difficult team for centre forwards

Paul Scholes also took the opportunity to back under-fire Wayne Rooney as he claimed that Van Gaala s team organisation wasna t suitable for strikers. The former midfielder believes that Rooneya s tactical genius as a No 9 was going to waste as he wasna t being adequately supported by his teammates.

a I was at the Manchester derby and I watched him (Rooney) for the first 20 minutes.

a His movement was brilliant but when he’s playing in that team there’s nobody prepared to pass to him. You’d be tearing your hair out.

a Ruud van Nistelrooy, Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole couldn’t play in this team.a

Is Wayne Rooney eating up Anthony Martiala s chances at Old Trafford?

While Wayne Rooney has found support with Paul Scholes, his critics believe that the English captain is taking up Anthony Martiala s place in the starting eleven. Having completed a big money move from Monaco, the French striker has won plaudits for his ability to take on defenders while maintaining his composure in front of the goal. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both the strikers and whether Martial will be brought back to a central position with Rooney deployed behind him in a No 10 role. Having just turned 30, Wayne Rooney seemed to be woefully out of ideas at the goalless Manchester derby.
