Jose Mourinho Believes Chelsea FC Deserved Better, Highlights The Importance Of Confidence

Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho believes his side deserved more from the 3-1 loss away at Everton.

A Steven Naismith inspired Toffees side hit three past The Blues as the Chelsea FC’s title defence could be seen crumbling. The Scottish striker came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Muhamed Besic and scored two goals within a space of seven minutes. The forward completed his perfect hat-trick in the second half of the game.

Nemanja Matic scored a screamer for the away side to pull a goal back, but The Blues could not overcome the two goal deficit.

It was Chelsea FC’s third loss in five games this season and this already equals the number of games Mourinho lost last season.

Everything goes against us– Mourinho

The Portuguese accepted that his team was low on confidence and blamed luck for their recent failings. Speaking in his post-match interview, as quoted by the club’s official website, Mourinho said:

“We deserved better and played for a better result.

“Ita s too heavy for the way the players started the game, finished the game and played during the game. Confidence is low, wea re a team with some doubts, about some lucky and unlucky incidents in each game, but I felt the players deserved a better result than we got.”

Mourinho acknowledged that while his side were making mistakes, it was unlucky that all their mistakes were being punished by the opposition.

.

“The biggest concern is that everything goes against us. We know we are making mistakes but with every mistake we are punished immediately. We lose a player for the first time, goal. One shot from outside the box, goal. After that it was a fantastic reaction. Eden Hazard had two fantastic chances with two shots, the ball hit the defender twice and when it looks like the ball was going in it goes for a corner.”

We need the players to smile again — Jose Mourinho

The former Real Madrid manager believes that the Blues need to string together a couple of victories in order to bring their season back on track. Mourinho accepted that his team was short on confidence and partly blamed the result on it.

“We need to win a couple of consecutive matches, we need the players to smile again, we need the strikers to score goals, we need the defenders to not make mistakes and be punished, we need confidence. Confidence is fundamental and at the moment everything is going against us. The players fight, play, try, like they did, but the reality is that at the moment ita s difficult for them. Ita s not easy to play football with the confidence level low.”
