Mourinho Reckons Chelsea FC Can Afford To Drop Points Against West Brom

Having collected just a solitary point from their opening two games, Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho reckons they will be able to recover in the Premier League title race despite dropping points against West Brom due to the competitive nature of the Premier League.

Chelsea FC have endured the worst start to a campaign by any Premier League defending champions after collecting just one point in their opening two games.

They were thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City in their last outing. But, Jose Mourinho is one calm man, dismissing suggestions that the club’s title defence will be over even before it begins if they drop points against Pulis’ West Brom.

Mourinho not worried about dropping points

Jose Mourinho’s and Chelsea’s last few defeats have come against teams managed by managers with names starting from ‘P’.

However, speaking ahead of the West Brom game, Mourinho dismissed suggestion that the club are under pressure to get all three points after their worst start to a season in seventeen years.

“We can [afford to lose],” Mourinho was quoted saying by ESPN FC. “Eight points in England is 80 points in other leagues, because in other leagues, eight points is an eternity.

“It’s very difficult in other leagues for teams to lose points. In England, teams lose points.”

‘You won’t make money if I am sacked’

Chelsea blew an eight point lead last season when City drew level in New Year. But, the Blues recovered and comfortably won the league.

Laughing off suggestions that he was near the top of bookmakers’ lists to be sacked first this season, Mourinho said:

.

“You don’t have big chances of making money on that. Just a feeling, but I don’t think I’m going to be sacked.

“The bookies want to make money. They don’t want to lose money. I never heard about a bookmaker bankrupt.

“The ones that put the money there is money lost, so good for the bookies.”
