Mourinho puts faith in new Blue Radamel Falcao: “He has always proved people wrong”

Radamel Falcao swapped Manchester for London and red for blue over the summer and will add to Chelsea FC manager Jos Mourinho’s attacking options as he prepares his team to defend their Premier League crown .

Chelsea FC manager Jos Mourinho has reiterated the faith he has in new signing Radamel Falcao as the Blues continue to prepare for what is likely to be an extremely tricky title defence next season.

The Colombian international has endured a poor season in the Premier League with Manchester United – scoring just four goals throughout the entire season – but Mourinho believes it would be folly to write him off.

Mourinho believes Falcao will be an important player for Chelsea FC

The Blues’ manager sat down for an extended Q & A session with the British media on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and addressed a range of questions – including the role of new signing Radamel Falcao.

Quoted by England’s Mail Online, Mourinho said of the Colombian: “I just feel ita s a new opportunity for him. He comes after a bad season, but ita s not up to me to speak about it or find the answers for it. I can just say that the analysis we did, and we did a lot of it, showed he is in good condition. We believe he can be very useful for us.

“Hea s the kind of player whoa s proved people wrong all of his career a at Porto, at Atl tico and even at Monaco before his injury. Ita s easy to feel hea s a very good professional. Hea s a guy who always tries to be ready for the team and ready to work. We believe he can be very important for us.”

The Portuguese manager has also hinted again at the possibility of pairing El Tigre with former Atl tico Madrid team-mate Diego Costa up front for the Blues. “With the strikers we have, we can play with two strikers together more than we did before. We have three very good strikers, and all of them with special motivations,” said Mourinho.

Falcao could be an important player for the Blues

Although Radamel Falcao is clearly not the player he was a few years ago, the repeated public displays of faith shown in him by new manager Jos Mourinho might just help in getting the best out of the Colombian.

Mourinho’s comments suggest that he has a clear idea of how he intends to use Falcao and capitalise on the former Porto striker’s main strength – his movement and intelligence in the penalty area. Moreover, in Eden Hazard and Cesc F bregas in particular, the Blues have players with the intelligence and passing ability to read El Tigre’s movement and provide him with the service he needs to put the ball in the back of the net.

The addition of Falcao also allows Chelsea FC to play two up front, given he has a different skill-set to both Diego Costa and LoA?c R my. In particular, a pairing with Costa – which has worked before at Atl ti – could prove to be lethal.

Costa is the type of striker that likes to run the channels and drag the defence out of position with him. Falcao, as he himself has explained, prefers playing closer to the goal and is much more of a poacher. Especially given the rapport they have established over the years, Mourinho will be tempted to pair the two up front for the Blues during the course of the season.

Falcao has already made his d but for the Blues – a neat 20-min cameo against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday – but is likely to be given more time against European champions Barcelona when Chelsea FC take on the treble winners in Washington D.C. on Tuesday night.
