Spanish side Sevilla has again proved that they are the kings of Europa League as they easily overcame the challenge of Fiorentina by 2-0 at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday. Colombian striker Carlos Bacca played a key role in the victory of the Andalusians as he opened the scoring for them. Sevilla coach Unai Emrey was seemingly pleased with the victory, and said after the game that his side “love” the Europa League.
Going into this game, Sevilla were the runaway favorites to make it to the finals as thanks to their heroics in the first leg, they were ahead by 3-0. Still, Unai Emreya s men started the game on aggressive note, they created some good opportunities early in the match.
Fiorentina, on the other hand, were desperately looking out of ideas as they had no answer to the terrific attacking display of the visitors. Colombian striker Carlos Bacca put Sevilla ahead in the 22nd minute of the match.
Soon thereafter, Daniel Carrico put the result of this encounter beyond any doubt as he doubled the lead of Sevilla in the 27th minute. Fiorentina needed a miracle to make a comeback but they even failed to take a simple opportunity that was presented to them as Josip Ilicic missed a penalty in the second half.
Current holders Sevilla are bidding to become the first club to win the trophy on four occasions, and coach Unai Emery said after the game that his players a lovea the Europa League.
“I’m really satisfied with our work and happy for our fans,” Unai Emery told Mediaset. “We love this competition. Now we must enjoy our success and think about the final.
“We are unbeaten in the knockout stages playing against great teams such as Borussia Monchengladbach and Zenit St Petersburg.
“Against Fiorentina we played a great knockout tie, but we suffered in the first half. Our goals made us stronger.”
