Chelsea striker Diego Costa has opened up on his life in the English Premier League so far and has been impressed by the competitiveness of the league.
Costa’s first season at the club has been a successful one as his 19 goals in the Premier League has helped his side to the top and they are favorites to win the title in a few weeks time from now. The Spaniard has been a big hit with the blues’ fans and they have enjoyed his aggressiveness on the pitch, unlike his opponents.
Costa, however, claims that it’s not only him who plays on the edge but also the defenders in the League who make strong challenges, “The Premier League is a hard league, with great teams. The smaller teams can beat you. The league is physical, too.
“I always get hit but I don’t complain. They tackle strong but on top of it, they don’t call the foul while in Spain they did.
“Some defenders try to bring you out of games but more and more, I control myself more and try to play my game,” Costa told Marca.
Wants to contribute more in the National team jersey
Costa’s club success hasn’t been replicated with the national side yet. With the International break coming up, Costa could have enhanced his reputation even more if it wasn’t for a hamstring injury that he picked up in Chelsea’s last game against Hull City. Injuries at the wrong time have hampered Costa’s international career as the 26-year old has made just six appearances for Spain since his debut in March last year.
Costa has been criticised by few on his commitment for Spain, but he feels that such criticism is uncalled for, “Sometimes it angers me that they put in doubt my commitment,” he said. “I already proved that I’m enthusiastic and that I want to achieve success with the national team.
“The best way to silence the critics is to play and to do things well.
“But I haven’t done that yet and hence, I have to listen and swallow [criticism].
“It is one thing is to criticize my performance, which is fair, but another to criticize my commitment.”
Costa went on to add that he still has a lot to prove for Spain and hopes he can contribute when fit, “My history with the national team is that it still hasn’t really started. I haven’t done anything yet.
“The national team is something I think of. I’ve gone through a lot to be in the national team and I hope good times will come.”
