Chelsea FC’s gaffer Jose Mourinho wished for a fixture against French Giants, Paris-Saint Germain and surprisingly his wish, has come true. Chelsea FC will face PSG, in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. A tie against PSG, is considered a death sentence by many Chelsea FC, but nor for their manager Jose Mourinho, who will relish on the opportunity of facing the French Giants again. Chelsea FC faced PSG in the round of 16, last year also. Although Chelsea FC edged past PSG last year, this year the Paris based club, would look to thwart Mourinho’s advances.
Chelsea FC meanwhile are running riot in the Premier League and registered a comfortable win against Hull City, last time around. After defeating Hull, Mourinho made his intentions to face PSG clear.
“I don’t have a lot of preference because we only have five [teams] we can face,” he said. “But to make it easy for everybody, Paris. It’s easy for us to travel, easy for the fans to travel. They don’t spend a lot of money to go there.
“[Paris Saint-Germain] are a very good team, and I prefer a good team that really motivates the boys. If I could choose, but I can’t, but if I could, I’d say Paris.”
Chelsea will travel to faceAi??PSGAi??for the first leg of the Champions League last 16 on Feb. 17. The second leg at Stamford Bridge will be played three weeks later on March 11.
Chelsea FC’s robust attack would be against the Center Back pairing of David Luiz, who Chelsea FC sold to PSG, and Thiago Silva. This fixture, between the two heavyweights of global football, is set to be a feisty one. Laurent Blanc’s team is also expected to fight tooth and nail for progression into the latter stages of the Champions League.
Although with Manchester City facing Barcelona, Chelsea FC could hope that their clash against PSG, does not take a toll on their Premier League campaign. Chelsea FC are only three points ahead of a Manchester City squad, out for blood. The Citizens defeated Leicester City 1-0, and have amounted to thrity six points.
Although the Premier League race is panning out to be a two horse race, there could be a third contender for the title in Manchester United. With Chelsea FC and Manchester City facing crunch encounters in Europe and United, free from such shackles, the Louis van Gaal side, would look to mount a serious challenge for the title.
