English Premier League champions Manchester City are facing the prospect of losing their left back Aleksander Kolarov to Ligue 1 contenders AS Monaco.
Serbian left back Aleksander Kolarov moved to Manchester City in a 19 million deal from Italian Serie A side SS Lazio in 2010. After moving to the Etihad stadium, he was in a constant fight with Gael Clichy for the left back spot, with the managers rotating the duo every now and then. It was only in 2013-14 season that Aleksander Kolarov established himself as the first choice with 44 appearances in all competitions. Manchester City defender has only one year remaining on his contract, and the club is facing the prospect of losing him out on a free next summer, if he opts against signing a contract extension.
French Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco are closely monitoring the situation of Aleksander Kolarov at Manchester City. The cash rich side are planning for a stronger title challenge against PSG in Ligue 1 next season and have identified Aleksander Kolarov as a potential target to strengthen their side. The Serbian left back is also a dead ball specialist who possess a ferocious left foot, which increases his value and potential impact in AS Monaco.
Manchester City has offered a contract extension to Aleksander Kolarov and it is believed that he is considering their offer. The fact that the Serbian is yet to sign a deal has opened the window for AS Monaco, who can easily match or better the financial terms offered by the Premier League champions. The defender is set to enter the last year in his contract and that will reduce his market value if Manchester City are planning to recoup their investment. Under Manuel Pellegrini, Aleksander Kolarov established himself as a regular starter and it is believed that Manchester City will put up a stiff fight to keep him at the Etihad Stadium.
