The London club, who were desperate to sign Rooney in the summer ai??i?? only to be turned down by Manchester United, are hoping to involve the England international as a part of this deal, but Manchester United are unwilling to part ways with their talismanic striker. The two primary reasons behind Chelsea finally willing to sell Juan Mata to a Premier League club is firstly due to Mataai??i??s willingness to leave Stamford Bridge in order to gain regular first team action ahead of the World Cup, and secondly this transfer fee will help them to balance their book. The fact that Manchester United are unlikely to challenge for the title this season has also played a big part in Mourinho giving a green signal for this move.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United forward Andy Cole has insisted that Mata could fit in perfectly to Unitedai??i??s set-up, contrary to what Gary Neville suggested the other day. He believes that Mata is intelligent enough to adapt to tactical changes and that his arrival will be a massive boost for the club.
“He was Chelsea’s player of the season two years on the bounce so I find it very strange he’s not in the team now.
“Jose Mourinho has made his decision why he’s not in the team so if he did come to Manchester United I think he’d be a fantastic player for them.
“(His arrival) would be a massive boost, given United supporters were disappointed there were no major signings in the summer. It’ll be very difficult to win the league this season but it would galvanise them for next season.
“If you look at Manchester United’s history, they’ve always played with wingers, they’ve always played attacking football. I can’t see them changing their philosophy; the team’s been built on an attacking 4-4-2.
“But, for sure, Mata can operate in a 4-4-2. I think he’s more than intelligent enough to play in a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1; he’ll look to get on the ball, as he’s always done.
