We Want To Prove Ourselves Against Crystal Palace, says Emre Can

Emre Can has made it clear that when Liverpool take the field against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, they want to prove themselves on a ground that has given them huge disappointments in their last two visits.

Can insisted that the Reds won’t be looking for revenge, he stressed that they want to go out there and win at the scene where their lowest point of the season came according to manager Brendan Rodgers who admitted himself that he was running the risk of getting the sack back then.

Liverpool were beaten 3-1 in South London back in November though they have turned the tide remarkably since then. One defeat in 13 Premier League games is testimony of that, and they lie just three points off the fourth spot which once looked like well beyond their reach.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the 21-year-old said, “We definitely won’t be thinking about that. We’ve just got to think about the game and go on and try to win it, rather than think about anything that’s happened in the past. We want to win and go through.”

“I think when we lost 3-1 at Crystal Palace we were on a bad run. We weren’t on form and we were at a development stage. Now it is completely different – we are playing in a different way with a different line-up.”

“Perhaps it wasn’t our day, but the way we played wasn’t quite right. Now it is completely different. That’s how we want to show ourselves on Saturday.”

“We want to go there and win. It is a cup game and we will give 100 per cent to try to win it and go through to the next round.”

Can was in Wembley when Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund in the final of the 2013 Champions League and he is eager to play at England’s national stadium.

“It’s a very well respected stadium back in Germany,” he explained. “The final of the Champions League was there in 2013 and I was there, but didn’t play.”

“It’s a great stadium and we want to get there, all of us, so we’ve got to win the game at Palace and get nearer to achieving the target of getting to the final at that great stadium.”

“I’ve followed the FA Cup since I was a kid. It’s a great cup competition and there’s a great chance to get to the final. That’s our target, so we’ve got to go and win the game on Saturday.”
