Vincent Kompany Believes Manchester United Clash As Vital To Shape City’s Season

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany claims it is the ideal time to have a Manchester derby ,even though Manchester City go into Sunday’s meeting on a poor run of results while Manchester United have produced their best form under Louis van Gaal.

Vincent Kompany admits reversing Manchester Citya s poor form is a bigger concern right now than their slim title hopes.

However, City captain Kompany believes form can be irrelevant when local rivals clash and thinks this is the chance to get back to winning ways.

The champions saw their title slip further away after a fourth successive away defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

They have now won just five of their twelve Premier League games in 2015 and only once away from home in the league so far this calendar year.

The 2-1 reverse left their hopes of reclaiming their crown hanging by a thread as they ended the weekend they started in second down in fourth.

Chelsea are nine points clear at the top and have a game in hand on City with one hand already on the trophy.

Kompany said about the upcoming Manchester Derby,”We have United on Sunday and a derby is a derby. It doesn’t matter what place you are in the league, it’s a derby,” he told reporters.

“If anything, it’s a good moment to go into a derby. I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment but it’s the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we’ve had on Monday.”

City are unlikely to retain their Premier League title, but skipper Kompany believes that if they can get fine results in their last seven games, they could take momentum into the 2015-16 campaign.

Kompany said: a For me, my only concern is we get back to our best form.”

a Ia ve learnt from the past seasons as well that finishing a season strongly can have an impact on your next season as well.”

a I think ita s our general form (not just away) that we have to improve.”

a Any big team, big club, who loses a game is very disappointed, but ita s part of the game that we play.a

City dominated for the major period at Selhurst Park but left empty handed and Kompany insisted they didna t deserve to lose again.

He said: a There are not many of those games, where ita s a difficult game to draw conclusions from.

a Ita s not one of them that I felt we should have lost. In some funny way, it wasna t even a bad game.”

a Credit to Crystal Palace but ita s not one of the games I felt we should have lost.”

a It has a bit of a different feel to it maybe than the result at Burnley. But a team like us needs result and today wasna t the result that we hoped for.”

a We are demanding with ourselves because we have to win, but you guys saw it – did they have a shot on goal except for set-pieces?”

a I dona t know. They are definitely a solid team who knows how to defend.

a They had a game plan so credit to them but, for us, it wasna t a bad game in comparison with other games that we might have lost.a

Citya s latest setback piles the pressure on Manager Pellegrini and his players ahead of Sundaya s trip to Old Trafford.
