They might be just three points off the top of the table, but Manchester United are way off the pace in Europe’s elite competition — Champions League.

.

The Red Devils and especially their manager Louis van Gaal have come under heavy criticism, for playing a style of football where they seem to keep long bouts of possession of the ball without really doing anything in particular.

In a talk-show for BT Sport, former England striker and current sports broadcaster Gary Lineker asks ex-Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Michael Owen whether the current crop at the Theater of Dreams can go on to emulate the grand success that the Liverpool FC of the 1970s and the 1980s achieved and maybe even beat them.

Funnily enough, Rio Ferdinand seemed to bury his face inside his palms at this question. Paul Scholes, who is widely regarded as one of the best passers in the game, even seemed to have shed a little tear (comically).

Unsurprisingly though, the only person that saw the funny side of it all was Michael Owen, who enjoyed arguably the best days of his career at Liverpool FC.
