With the scores level at 2-2, Brazilian midfielder Oscar — now the team’s first-choice penalty taker — skied his effort over the bar, squandering a superb opportunity to win the three points for Chelsea FC

A topsy-turvy game at Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea FC and Watford share the spoils on Boxing Day, after each side saw a one-goal lead being cancelled out in either half. However, the home side have only themselves to blame for not being able to celebrate a win at the end of 90 minutes, as Oscar missed his penalty kick late in the game, which would have put the Blues 3-2 ahead.

The Brazilian has had a mini-renaissance since Jos Mourinho’s departure, but his horribly taken effort from the spot might well dent his confidence. More importantly for Chelsea FC, it leaves the side short of a confident penalty-taker at the minute, with both Hazard and Oscar now missing their last kicks from 12 yards.

While some Blues supporters have seemingly had enough of the 24-year-old’s inconsistency, others refused to lay blame on the Brazilian, instead ruing the bad luck the home side had during the game.

Serbian midfielder Nemanja Mati did not have his best day on the pitch either, and his comical handball that allowed Watford skipper Troy Deeney to level the scores just before the break was also criticised by Chelsea FC fans on Twitter.

Here are some of the reactions on the social media site after the pulsating contest:

Nothing I want more than Oscar to make it here but he’s had too much time and he is simply not improving

For one game Oscar will turn into Zidane.. then for the next 10 he goes missing. Not good enough. Happening for 3 years now. a Feroze Ali (@feroze17) December 26, 2015

Don’t want to blame Oscar for that penalty miss. Matic is the real culprit. What was he even thinking innthe box to handle the ball.

a Soham Kulkarni (@iamskulkarni) December 26, 2015

Been saying this for months now. Oscar can go. I don’t mind. a Caliban (@ZosoCFC) December 26, 2015

If Chelsea get a pen at Old Trafford (unlikely as that seems), who takes it? Not Oscar after that. Not Hazard. Not Costa, who is suspended.

a Dan Levene (@danlevene) . December 26, 2015

Ouch. Oscar’s penalty just landed on my head in Sussex. #chelsea a Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 26, 2015

I don’t understand that handball of #matic why ??? https://t.co/94sxjjJgAX

a Ruud Gullit (@GullitR) December 26, 2015

That’s ridiculous from Matic. a ChelseaFansChannel (@ChelseaFansYT) December 26, 2015

Oscar has been decent from penalties this season but that was the opportunity for Hazard to win it and add some confidence. Sigh.

Seen a replay of the pen and Oscar slipped just as he took the pen – that’s happened before to Chelsea pen takers a Ian Abrahams (Moose) (@BroadcastMoose) December 26, 2015
