Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that club captain John Terry will sign a new contract and will be at the club come next season.
Peter Cech though could be on his way out in the summer as Mourinho said that he will make his own decision and he won’t stand in his way if the goalkeeper decides to leave.
Terry’s situation though is expected to be resolved before the end of the season as Mourinho confirmed at his press conference before Wednesday’s match trip to West Ham.
a Yes, it will be before the end of the season for sure. What I can guarantee is he will be a Chelsea player next season. I can guarantee that. To be able to guarantee that, ita s because I know what my board tell me and what the player tells me. No doubts he is going to get his contract a no doubts.a
Asked whether the deal had been agreed verbally, he said, a Yes, I think ita s around that.a
Cech’s situation is a bit complicated however. He has been second choice behind Thibaut Courtois for the majority of the season and despite starting against Spurs at Wembley, he will be desperate to leave in the summer transfer window despite having 15 months left on his contract.
a I dona t think Petr is a guy to be persuaded,a said Mourinho. a He doesna t let anyone persuade him. He will make his decision and when he makes that decision I think hea s very mature, making what he feels is the best decision for him and his future.”
a I will just wait, wishing his decision is to stay. Thata s my desire. I would like him very, very much to stay. But I dona t waste my time trying to persuade him because ita s just his decision. If he tells me he wants to leave I will tell him my opinion, that he is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world, so [it would take] huge money [to sign him].a
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are all rumoured to be linked with the Czech international.
Replacing the experienced personnel could be a tough task for Mourinho in the future as he admitted: a Every one of these big guys is difficult to replace, but at the same time you still have the player and he is still an important player. Sometimes you have the solution just around the corner. Sometimes you dona t have it and you have to look outside your club.”
a But this is a process that we can take our time over because John is proving again this season that hea s a player for years. When I came back last year he was coming from a difficult period, but last season he was very good. This season, even better than last season. So, normally, he has time to enjoy his football with us. At the same time, he gives us time to think about what will happen next.a
