Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he is focussed on building a dynasty at Anfield and is least bothered about the speculation linking him with other clubs.
The Manchester City hierarchy apparently want Rodgers to replace Manuel Pellegrini in the summer should the Chilean be sacked after a few months. Rodgers has shown brilliant tactical awareness in his time at Liverpool as the side have developed nicely after Rodgers’ disappointing first season in charge when the team were too focussed on playing possession football. Over the last two season, Rodgers has evolved as a manager and this season he has shown why he is in the top breed of managers after turning around Liverpool’s stuttering start to the league into a good one.
The Ulsterman signed a contract extension last year that will keep him at the club until 2018 and he hopes he can fulfill all that is expected of him, “I’ve signed a deal here and I want to be here to see that through. Then, hopefully, I’ve earned enough time to warrant another deal, to keep growing and building here.”
“If I’m here after this year, it will be the longest period in any role I’ve been in football. I’ve always been the same. After three years, I’ve always moved a role or job,” he said.
“I always saw Liverpool as a club that was going to be a destination for me, not somewhere that was part of the journey. I really wanted to be here, follow some incredible managers with a support that is unrivaled, and to have success while knowing I was young enough to create and build something.
“That is why I came here. I know I need to justify that by working well and winning trophies. I hope that is the next step. When you come here, that is what you are judged on. It is something I want to do for all the supporters and people here.”
If Liverpool do qualify for the Champions League this season and manage to win the FA Cup, then it would definitely be one of the best seasons in the last five years or so as they had struggled to progress under previous managers Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish. Rodgers has a points-per-game stat of 1.85 at Liverpool; the highest at a particular club in his managerial career. With the club finally making profits and extending their stadium, it’s definitely exciting times for the fans and by having someone like Rodgers at the club, they can be sure that they’ll progress as a club.
