Pellegrini urges his players to have ‘a cold mind’ as Manchester City prepare to host Liverpool FC

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has asked his players to play with ‘a cold mind’ when Liverpool FC visit the Etihad on Saturday in the match of the week

Premier League leaders Manchester City will be looking to consolidate their position at the league summit by taking all three points against Liverpool FC in the evening kick-off on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that to achieve that, his side must have ‘a cold mind’ — the implication being that he expects his player to be calm, yet ruthlessly efficient, as they have been for most of this season.

“It is never a pressure to be top” – Pellegrini

The Chilean insisted that he felt no pressure leading the Premier League table, expressing his pleasure at the season Manchester City have had so far. He also asked his players to have a ‘cold mind’ during Saturday’s game against the Merseysiders. Pellegrini is quoted by the official club website as saying:

“One of the most important things in important games is to have a cold mind, not a cold heart but a cold mind. Ita s so important and I hope we can do it.

“I think that for me it is never a pressure to be top a you always want to be top as you only depend on what you can do. For me ita s a pleasure to be top and wea ll continue to try to be a it doesna t matter what happens, wea re always the favourites with the media and seen as the team to beat.”

Manchester City did everything possible to keep Milner .

Pellegrini also spoke about the return to the Etihad of former City midfielder James Milner, insisting that the club did everything in their power to keep him in Manchester.

“I always think that ita s special for every player to play against the team they worked for for a lot of years,” Pellegrini is quoted as saying by the club’s website.

“For James Milner it will be exactly the same – ita s part of the career of a player.

“It was not difficult as we did all we could to convince James to stay but he wanted to go and have another challenge – we understand but we could not do any more to convince him.”
