Mourinho On Matic Red Card: ‘Don’t Make Me Laugh’

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was visibly upset by the way Nemanja Matic was sent off in yesterday’s game against Burnley after over reacting on Ashley Barnes’ challenge.

Barnes made a studs up challenge on Matic and in all honesty one that deserved a straight red all day long, however, referee Martin Atkinson did not even issue a yellow card and sent off Matic whose reaction to the challenge wild.

Earlier in the game, Chelsea had taken the lead through Branislav Ivanovic’s neat finish in the 14th minute and had two penalty appeals rejected as an Ivanovic shot hit Michael Kightly on the arm and Diego Costa was clearly pushed by Jason Shackell. The two decisions were key as Burnley remained in the game and equalised in the 81st minute as Ben Mee scored past Thibaut Courtois after having a numerical advantage.

Manager Jose Mourinho had the right to be aggrieved as his side were once again hard done by refereeing decisions.

When asked about Matic’s red card, he said, “Dona t make me laugh because Ia m not in the mood.

“A couple of weeks ago, when I was here after the Liverpool game in the Capital One Cup, I knew already what was going on with the television talking about Diego Costaa s crimes. Compare Diegoa s crimes with what happened today.

Mourinho went on to say that there were four key points in the game, “I prefer to say that this game had four crucial moments a minutes 30, 33, 43 and 69 – this is the story of the game. Ita s difficult for me to not say the truth. Ia m making it easy for you because you can go home, look at those moments and you will know what I think about the game.

“Minute 69 has a big relation to minute 30. Normally the player , if I can call him a player, who was involved in minute 69, and was also involved in minute 30, should be in the shower by minute 31. So there would be no minute 69 if the person in charge dealt with minute 30 in a proper way.

“If this story, that started a couple of months ago, finished today, and we had 12 matches to play with an advantage of five points I would tell you we would be champions. But I dona t know if the story ends here or if there is more waiting for us.

“Ia m happy that Ia m not stupid and I understood everything a couple of months ago.”
