A win over QPR has helped the gloom slightly on Merseyside, but as ever, there is constant talk of stars leaving and Liverpool fans must be tired of it by now.
The Mirror have reported that Manchester City are confident of landing Raheem Sterling in a whopping A?55 million deal this summer. The 20 year-old has refused to extend his contract so far and talks are expected to resume in the summer. Recent indications have suggested that the England international would extend his contract with the club, but there is plenty of serious interest from other clubs and hence the possibility of a big-money move cannot, by all means, be ruled out.
The Manchester side are reportedly willing to offer the England international a A?165,000-a-week contract, with incentives that could boost the actual figure to around A?200,000. That fee would probably be more than enough to tempt the player, with the prospect of Champions League only adding the lure.
Sterling hasn’t done well since he publicly spoke about his contract situation. He had a glaring miss in front of goal yesterday as he put the ball into the crowd from a super Jordan Henderson ball. However, it looks like this is not something that will deter Pellegrini, who believes Sterling can continue his development at the Eithad.
City are desperate to boost their home-grown quota of players and will be losing James Milner in the summer, possibly to Liverpool.
Inter Milan are apparently ready to pay A?46.2 million for the Yaya Toure’s services, so the side could reinvest the money earned through the Ivory Coast international in Raheem Sterling.
Brendan Rodgers recently insisted that, irrespective of whether he agrees to extend his contract in the summer the club would keep the 20-year-old on his A?35,000-a-week deal rather than sell to Manchester City or other rivals. He said, a Look, everyone wants to win trophies, everyone wants to play in the big competitions; but ita s also important that you have the opportunity to do that. Wea ll just be reinforcing our stance thata s been in place all along a that this is the best club for him at this moment where hea s got the opportunity to play and to fight and be competitive.”
