After a humiliating 3-0 loss at the hands of Watford, Liverpool it seems have some good news, as they seem to have become favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Gundogan had been brought to the fore at Dortmund under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp, and there is a lot of speculation that the German midfielder might be reunited with his old boss once again.
Defending Serie A champions Juventus, looking for a change of air, were tipped as the favourites to land Gundogan in the winter transfer window, according to reports from the Italian media.
However, Bianconeri director Beppe Marotta has said that the Turin based club would not be making any major signings in January, according to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset. [via Daily Mirror]
Gundogan’s inclusion to help impose Klopp’s style
This development gives a huge shot in the arm for Liverpool FC’s chances of signing the 25-year-old German midfielder.
.
Klopp is known for playing a high-pressing game, and the inclusion of Gundogan into the Liverpool FC midfield would provide that someone who has been there and done that, and can help the other players regarding what to do, from the middle of the park.
Gundogan is currently valued at around A?20 million by Transfermarkt.com, but might actually cost Liverpool FC lesser than that, as he would only have one year left on his contract at the end of the current season.
Does Klopp need more time?
Recent comparisons between Liverpool FC current manager Jurgen Klopp and former manager Brendan Rodgers suggest that both of them had a more-or-less similar record.
However, one argument in favour of the German is the fact that he has had to take over mid-season, and did not really have the chance to mould the squad in his way, or sign the players that he wants.
